El consumo ecológico surge como alternativa al modelo de consumo actual |

DAVINIA SUÁREZ/EFE Son grupos o cooperativas de consumo ecológico que se organizan para repartir el trabajo, contactar con los productores y gestionar la distribución de los productos entre sus miembros (o unidades).
Esta aparente utopía es posible gracias al trabajo conjunto de todos los participantes que apuestan por la búsqueda del reequilibrio medioambiental y un acercamiento entre el mundo rural y el urbano.
Los modelos de asociación son múltiples aunque todos tienen una característica común: son canales cortos de comercialización, ya que en la mayoría de los casos se consigue que el intercambio se realice sin intermediarios.
"En la tienda, el consumidor puede tratar directamente con los productores, lo que aporta confianza y credibilidad al proceso", ha afirmado la gerente de la cooperativa cordobesa de Almocafre, Carmen Casas.
Esta cooperativa pertenece a la Federación Andaluza de Consumo de Productos Ecológicos (FACPE) y funciona en una estructura en red que da prioridad a los productores locales y a las empresas pequeñas, "siempre y cuando los productores cumplan los requisitos y acrediten la calidad y el cultivo ecológico", ha explicado a EFE Carmen Casas.
Las agrupaciones garantizan mediante acuerdos con los productores, precios estables todo el año, lo que beneficia a consumidores y agricultores, que dejan de depender de las fluctuaciones del mercado, mientras que las cooperativas, generalmente asociaciones sin ánimo de lucro, mantienen tan sólo un margen mínimo que permite el sostenimiento de la estructura.
Almocafre comercializa en su tienda más de 1.800 referencias de productos ecológicos que los socios (que disfrutan de un descuento del 5 por ciento) y los clientes puntuales pueden comprar en el establecimiento o a través de su página web.
Los grupos de consumo ecológico adquieren principalmente productos agrícolas pero también es posible comprar productos de higiene personal, cosmética, limpieza e incluso bebidas alcohólicas o libros.
La mayor parte de los grupos son pequeñas asociaciones que compran a diferentes productores locales para revitalizar así las huertas cercanas a las ciudades y una cultura que se perdía.
Estos grupos autogestionados se ponen en contacto con los productores, realizan un pedido semanal y se organizan por turnos para encargarse del reparto de las cestas, que se hace normalmente en algún local común.
Otros grupos como Ecosol, en Madrid, cuentan con una persona liberada con salario que garantiza los pedidos, el contacto con proveedores, se encarga de las facturas y de atender a los miembros en el local común, entre otras actividades.
La Coordinadora de Grupos de Consumo Ecológico de Madrid, formada por nueve grupos, se ha creado para resolver los asuntos logísticos y gestionar pedidos de cantidades mayores, para que la distribución de la mercancía sea ventajosa también para el productor.
"Intentamos funcionar como una unidad de cara a los productores y crear relaciones estables y de confianza con ellos, además de compartir información y fomentar el debate y la discusión política sobre el consumo responsable", ha asegurado Águeda Serriz, coordinadora de Ecosol.
Otras opciones son las agrupaciones mixtas que pagan una cuota mensual para una cesta estándar y obtienen cada semana productos de temporada que el grupo ha recibido de los productores, sin la posibilidad de realizar pedidos individualizados.
"El producto ecológico es más caro que el convencional pero la calidad es incomparable" asegura Carmen Casas, el consumidor ecológico no sólo busca comer más sano, "está invirtiendo en calidad, sabor, aroma, pero también en medio ambiente, en ecología sostenible, y en una estructura comercial responsable que apoya un modelo de economía concreto".
El perfil de los participantes ha evolucionado mucho en los últimos años; en 1994 eran principalmente jóvenes universitarios y amas de casa preocupadas por el sabor y la calidad de los alimentos, y ahora se han sumado personas mayores que añoran el sabor de los productos, mujeres que trabajan fuera de casa y personas con enfermedades o rechazo hacia determinados tipos de alimentos.
